HDR needs a compatible display. Social apps may change the colors.

Using your HDR photo

Crop and adjust here, then download the original HDR PNG. Open that original on an HDR display to see the effect. Start with a gentle brightness setting and increase it to taste.

Sending it as a photo in a message, taking a screenshot, or saving a preview can remove HDR. Use the ZIP when moving the original between devices, then extract it before uploading.

X compatibility is experimental. In our desktop web upload test, X converted the HDR PNG into an SDR JPEG and changed its appearance. Some existing X avatars retain HDR, but we don’t have a reliable upload method to recommend. A bright preview here doesn’t guarantee HDR on X. This tool adds an HDR grade to an SDR photo; it cannot recover detail that wasn’t captured.

The SDR preview uses a luminance tone map to fit the grade into a standard display. It is a simulation, not proof of HDR brightness. The original 16-bit PNG uses Rec.2020 / PQ color metadata. Older viewers can render it differently. Download the separate SDR preview for a standard-display version; the HDR PNG does not contain an independent SDR fallback.

Existing full-range Rec.2020 PQ PNGs can be cropped and adjusted directly in HDR. They start at 1× brightness so they aren’t graded twice. Direct HDR editing supports non-interlaced 8/16-bit RGB/RGBA PNGs up to 8 megapixels, with no rotated EXIF orientation.

HLG, JPEG gain maps and other HDR layouts cannot be preserved by this editor yet. You can explicitly choose to edit a browser-rendered SDR copy instead; the original file is unchanged. Unrecognized or stripped HDR metadata may not be detected. Wide-gamut SDR photos are converted to sRGB by your browser; transparent areas become white.
